- Eco-Friendly It is also good to know that silk flowers have a significantly less environmental impact than fresh-cut flowers. Fresh flowers are often grown using potentially harmful pesticides and then, due to their very limited shelf life, they are transported globally as quickly as possible in aircraft and refrigerated trucks which produce massive amounts of carbon emissions. This amounts to some 60-80% more than shipping by sea freight, which is SilkBlume’s preferred method of transporting our stock.
- Hypoallergenic and hygienic A lot of people can’t have fresh flowers in their space because of allergies and hay fever. Silk flowers offer a healthier and more hygienic option. Additionally, some fresh flowers can be harmful to pets if ingested by them but SilkBlume flowers are not subjected to pesticide sprays.

About Us
Flowers make us happy. Whether you are choosing them for yourself or a gift for someone else, simply spending time choosing your favourite flowers is enough to lift your spirits. Owner Founder Michelle Agostini has always yearned to share this love of the beauty of flowers and her skilled flower arrangements with others, but only when Silk flowers came to her attention did it become apparent that the supply, arrangement and delivery of this unique product would be a viable business – and so in June 2017, SilkBlume was born!
SilkBlume is a boutique silk flower sales or subscription business founded on the conviction that silk flowers are just as beautiful as their fresh flower counterparts but far more practical and eco-friendly. The motivation for SilkBlume came from sharing the joy and beauty of flowers without the maintenance, allergies and mess of flowers wilting in murky water! We also believe that our clients shouldn’t be restricted to having the same arrangement for years when there are so many beautiful flowers to choose from. With SilkBlume you have the option to subscribe and choose a fresh silk flower arrangement, personally delivered to your door every month – with a smile!
About Michelle Agostini
It has been a long and adventurous path for Owner/Founder Michelle Agostini to get SilkBlume to where is today. She describes a little of her story in her own words…
‘’I am a wife, Mom and entrepreneur, passionate about my family, good wine and flowers! I studied for a marketing degree straight out of school and at 25 I went to work with my father-in-law helping people start their small businesses from home by supplying waste fabric that had been sourced from local manufacturers. 3 years later, when he passed away, I decided to continue the business alone and so my entrepreneurial journey began. Sadly the fabric manufacturing industry in Cape Town took a turn for the worst, suppliers started closing and I needed to start seeking other avenues of business.’’
SilkBlume is born
‘’I had never really had the opportunity to explore my creative side’’ Michelle continues, ‘’and I have always loved flowers. I did a few online flower courses and registered SilkBlume in 2017. I opted to go with silk flowers because it was incredible to me that these silk flowers could be so lifelike with all the beauty of natural flowers but never die! Coming from a reuse and recycle background I was also immediately hooked on the idea of a product that was much ’greener’ and environmentally friendly than fresh flowers which have to be flown all over the globe and only have a very short shelf life.
With SilkBlume still in the research and development stage, I had been running both businesses concurrently but I closed The Fabric Factor Shop in June 2019 to concentrate all my energies on creating arrangements of silk flowers and building the SilkBlume business to where it is today.’’
